Can a business help change an industry?
Fairphone began in 2010 as a Dutch campaign raising awareness about conflict minerals in electronics. In 2013, it became a social enterprise with a mission to make the electronics industry fairer.
Today, Fairphone focuses on responsible sourcing, fairer working conditions, longer-lasting products and recycling. Its modular phones are designed so key parts, like the battery or display, can be replaced instead of replacing the whole device.
Fairphone shows that innovation is not only about new technology. It can also mean rethinking how products are made and how they affect people and the planet.
